Maintaining Your Swimming Pool Equipment

Cleaners
Use an automatic pool cleaner that will dramatically reduce the time spent on weekly maintenance. You’ll need to add a metal remover, if you fill your pool with well water.

pool-filterFilters
Cleaning cartridge filters, put them in a cleaning solution for 24 hours, then wash them off before reinstalling.

You should disassemble and clean your D.E. filters at least once per season. If your sand filter is 3-5 years old, ask your pool professional whether it's time to replace the sand. Check whether you have a clogged pump or skimmer basket, if your filter pressure gauge indicates that pressure has dropped below the normal reading for a clean filter.

Closing Kit
Clean your sand or D.E. filters when closing your pool for the season. That will ensure they are ready for action when you open your pool the following summer. Backwash or clean your filter regularly, as required, in order to obtain maximum filtration and energy efficiency.

Gaskets, O-Rings, & Rubber Fittings
Check the condition of the gaskets regularly, if your pool has a deck-mounted junction box, and replace as required - to make sure the box cannot be penetrated by water.

Coat all accessible o-rings, rubber fittings, and gaskets with a silicone O-ring lube to keep them from drying out, when closing your pool for the season.

Heaters
To uphold your heater's heating effectiveness, follow a regular program of preventive maintenance, as well as annual inspection and de-liming of the heat exchanger when necessary.

Pumps
Shut the pool pump off before operating the multi-port valve. In case your pump begins to run louder or make unusual noises, shut it off and contact your pool professional. Turn off the power and check to see if the impeller is clogged with debris, if your pump motor hums but will not start.

skimmerCheck and empty skimmer and pump baskets regularly.

Skimmers
If you want to prevent your skimmer basket from tipping over when the pump switches on or off, place a small weight or rock in the bottom (the weight must be larger than the suction pipe below the basket). The skimmer weir should be in place and move freely. Check and empty skimmer and pump baskets regularly.
